Real

"What is Real?", asked the Rabbit one day

"Real isn't how you were made", said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the rabbit.

"Sometimes", said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real, you don't mind being hurt."

Does it happen all at once, like being wound up", he asked, "Or bit-by-bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once", said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been rubbed off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real, you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Hi Cathy, we have 3" or more, and the roads are a bit icy. I made it to my third chemo OK, just late. We hope to have a good weekend, I hope you do too. Love, Greg

Hi Dad and Greg
No snow left here but cold! I won't be waking Puff today! By Monday back to rain and warmer. No more tests, I see Dr. Stigler (neuro) the end of March. I'd like him to do a muscle biopsy or spinal tap, I know he's made a dx but I've heard of some people having that done. We will ask him. Dad enjoy San Diego, Greg I hope the Chemo won't make you sick.
Love, Cathy

Cathy, glad the snow is gone. (Though your snow pictures are beautiful.) We got another few inches but the sun is out today and it is beautiful. Wonderful pos-beautiful and touching. The Velveteen Rabbit is one of my favorite stories. Keep us posted on the dnx and docs. And yes, don't be afraid to ask for things with the docs.
Hang in there. Spring is coming!
love and prayers,
Mary D.
